Last week I held a virtual interview with Paradise MX Holidays Spain owner Martin Cuddy discussing all points of Paradise MX, from how Covid-19 has affected his company and Spain in general, to what Spanish tracks are like and what you can expect from a Paradise MX Holiday…

Lewis: Hi Martin, hope you’re all keeping well in these tough times? To start us off tell us how covid-19 has affected yourselves out in Spain?

Martin: Hi Lewis,

Since the outbreak of the virus Spain as completely shut down! Although we are heading in the right direction to some way of getting back to normality it still has been a very horrendous few months with so many deaths! Obviously it is still not over for the many grieving families and also what is to follow! it’s sad to read everyday that businesses have folded, people have no money to put food on the table absolutely terrible! Following on with suicides now the whole effect it has on people is horrific! And will continue for many more months/years. As a family here at paradise it’s been a tough few months for sure with my wife Linda getting stuck in the UK visiting her daughter and new granddaughter as the virus broke out! Both my boys from a previous relationship also stuck in the UK and of course Linda’s son Christopher Mills stuck in the Netherlands pursing his GP career. With two of the boys being Mx riders it’s been tough on them as Mx is their life’s and not being able to ride has been tough! On a plus side for me having had to completely shut down while the virus is here I’ve been just as busy doing all the jobs that have been on hold for so long! One of those our own on site track here at paradise. Putting in much needed drainage and completely revamping the track so it’s enjoyable to ride and train on for not only the pro’s but for our novice and kids that visit. We are following the governments guide lines here in Spain aswel as keeping an eye on the rest of Europe ! We have been very lucky in the respect we are still taking a huge amount of bookings for the upcoming winter, although we are booking guests in the diary we are not taking deposits until we know 100% it’s safe to open! All current cancelled holidays due to COVIC19 have been rolled over to next winter.

Lewis: Tell us a bit about Spanish motocross tracks around your area, what are they like? Is there plenty to choose from? As you know over here in England were lucky to get 3 per county!

Martin:

We are very fortunate to live where we do! We have 18 legal tracks within 90 mins of Paradise both in the Murcia and Alicante Regions. From tracks like Solmoto a mxgp spec track prepped deep and loamy with plenty of watering to a more traditional track like Cehegin, hard pack with great elevation changes and a good mixture of jumps. We have flood lit tracks that can be rode at night. We have a complex an hour way with a Sx and Mx track also prepped and water to perfection as well as a Mx shop under current construction there. So yes plenty of Mx tracks and a few Sx tracks! Many are prepped and watered and some are more typical hardpack Spanish.

Lewis: So the big question… What can people expect from a Paradise Mx Holiday? Whats included? Whats the structure of the holiday when you’re out there?

Martin:

We basically take care of the whole holiday/ training! From myself transporting the bikes, kit, spares from UK / Europe down to Spain in our sprinter van. We are insured for everything from goods in transit to public liability etc, We own our villa and land outright so that’s every penny we had has gone into setting up Paradise. We include airport transfers from either Alicante or Murcia (2.5 flight time from UK) to Paradise. On arriving at paradise you will soon understand how the name paradise came about! Set in lovely quiet surroundings with breathtaking panoramic mountain views! Every bedroom is private and has a private bathroom. There’s a large comunal area downstairs with plenty of space and seating. A large 60” Tv with Sky tv and every Language available. Free Wifi for all guests, an array of board games and books and of course Mx magazines. All meals are included and are freshly prepared, that’s breakfast, lunch and dinner for the duration of the stay. On booking guests are asked if they have food allergies or dietary requirements as well as any health issues. Out side is a very large swimming pool, Tennis court, out door Gym inc spin bikes cross trainers etc Hot tub, a very large open area with plenty of sun loungers  and seating. Many trails from the door steps for walks and mountain biking (we have mountain bikes on site)Track days On a 7 day trip guests ride 4 days with the option to ride the paradise track a 5th day. That’s 5 different tracks based on ability. Normally up at 7am breakfast 7.30 leave between 8-8.30 and arrive at the tracks for 9 am. Every one travels in the minibus to the tracks with the large trailer carrying the bikes and spares etc. We ride 10am till 5-6 pm and the tracks are normally private to us and if there not the tracks are normally very quiet ! So very very rarely is there sessions. So guests get to ride all day that’s why the 5th day is optional ! As most guests are completely rode out lol. So Tuesday is normally airport runs meet and great, then Wednesday and Thursday ride days. Friday rest day ! We do offer excursions ie beaches, Gocarts, shopping, water park, Zoo etc .The transport is free however if there is an entry charge this is payed by the guest. Saturday and Sunday ride days with Monday optional. Then Tuesday Airport transfers for guest returning home. At paradise we have a large garage for bike repairs and bike prep. A power wash bay etc, On track days we have two large branded gazebos, branded chairs, tables, branded table cloths, knives/forks/spoons plates/bowls/mugs and even a kettle as the brits love a brew! Ice bucket to keep drinks cool, solar showers to keep you cool, bike stands fuel cans and a well stocked tool box. All fuel and track fees are included in the price. We are all first aid trained and have first aid kits eye wash kits in both the villa and minibus aswel as a defibrillator in the minibus! We also have a paramedic join us on most ride days! We also offer hire bikes but I have capped this to four ! To keep four bikes to the high standard I know is required and looking after guests I feel this is the balance ! Guests safety and well-being is always our number one priority and I will not compromise this over anything.

We feel (and reading our FB reviews and guest feedback) we have created a home from home atmosphere. With regular returning guests and returning for their second time this winter the Dutch KNMV academy with their EMX pilots. With Teams and more pros booking we feel we are definitely going in the right direction.

Lewis: Perfect thanks Martin hopefully you can get back to running Paradise soon!
